Conference Archives
Since the foundation of the Society in 1959, the Annual Conference has served as a platform for new and emerging work in the discipline of French studies. Taken together, the 60+ years of papers given at the conference offer an invaluable window into how our discipline has grown, changed and evolved since the mid-20th century, and offer a sense of where French studies may be heading in the third decade of the 21st century.
It is with this in mind that Ry Montgomery, a PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge, has worked to explore what stories emerge from a longue durée view of the Annual Conference. Their work -- funded by the Society -- has led to a preliminary report, published in a recent issue of the French Studies Bulletin. It has also made it possible for archived programmes -- dating back to 1994 -- to appear on the Society's website. A preliminary catalogue of conferences and events funded by the Society can be viewed by clicking on the button below.
The project is ongoing, and contributions are warmly welcomed. In particular, any individuals with copies of Conference programmes before 1994 (the earliest that the Society has been able to locate) are encouraged to contact Ry in the first instance (via rjm250@cam.ac.uk).
