Register for the 65th Annual Conference of the Society for French Studies!

Welcome to the registration page for the 65th Annual Conference of the Society for French Studies, which will be held at the University of Stirling from Monday 1st to Wednesday 3rd July 2024. A provisional programme can be found here. The programme is provisional and subject to change. Your panel day and time may change, please bear this in mind when registering for the conference.

Any questions regarding registration should be addressed to the Conference Officer, Dr Kate Foster, at sfsstirling2024@gmail.com. We look forward to welcoming you to the conference in July!

Registration deadlines

Early bird rates are available until Friday 29th March.

The final deadline for registration is Friday 19th April. Please note that registration for the conference will not be possible after this date.

Global rates

Global rates include hotel accommodation, hotel breakfasts, conference lunches and refreshments, drinks reception and buffet dinner on Monday evening, and a three-course gala dinner with entertainment on Tuesday evening. Delegates will stay at either Stirling Court Hotel or Travelodge Stirling City Centre. Stirling Court Hotel is located on the University of Stirling’s campus and is within 5-10 minutes’ walk of all conference venues. The Travelodge Stirling City Centre is less than 5 minutes from Stirling railway station, and a conference coach service will be available to transport delegates between the Travelodge and Stirling campus. Delegates who do not wish to register for the global rates are able to select their desired options, including individual hotel nights, using the form below.

Sunday arrival and film screening

While the conference itself will take place between Monday 1st and Wednesday 3rd July, delegates are able to arrive on Sunday 30th June should they wish by registering for the ‘Global 3 nights’ option. [PLEASE NOTE THAT ACCOMMODATION FOR SUNDAY AND MONDAY NIGHTS HAS NOW SOLD OUT]. On Sunday afternoon, there will be a tour of the art collection in the Pathfoot Building on campus. On Sunday evening, there will be a screening at the Macrobert Arts Centre on campus (capacity TBC) of a film entitled Je suis la France, to be followed by a Q&A with its makers. These events will also give delegates arriving on the Sunday an opportunity for informal socialising before the conference starts. To give us a sense of numbers, please check the relevant box(es) at point of registration if you would like to attend either of these events.

Membership of the Society

Membership is open to anyone who wishes to support the aims and activities of the Society. A reduced rate is available to retired members, postgraduate students, members not in full-time employment, and new lecturers in their first three years in post. You can find more information here. In order to cover the administrative costs associated with the organisation of the conference, non-members are required to pay a £10 surcharge. If you are not currently a member, but wish to join, please complete registration ticking ‘Yes’ when asked if you are a member, and then sign up for membership on the membership pages within seven days of registering.

Subsidised rates

The Society recognises the importance of supporting those who are studying, unwaged or retired to attend the conference and, as such, provides heavily subsidised rates for these delegates.

Postgraduate travel grants

As well as offering subsidised conference rates for postgraduate students, the Society is offering further support towards travel costs for students giving a paper or presenting a poster at the conference (NB information about the poster competition will be circulated in the coming weeks). Before applying, students should first seek financial support from their institution and/or funding body. Applications for funding not exceeding £120 should be addressed to the Conference Officer, Dr Kate Foster, at sfsstirling2024@gmail.com, using the subject line ‘[SURNAME]: SFS travel grant application’ by Friday 19th April. Applications should include a breakdown of the costs and confirmation from the student that they do not have other sources of funding for their travel. Successful applicants will be required to send travel receipts to the Society for reimbursement, which will be processed following the conference.
