Postgraduates at the 2019 conference

The Society for French Studies is keen to support postgraduate research at Masters, MPhil and PhD levels. We warmly invite postgraduate students to come and present their research at this year's annual conference at Royal Holloway.

With up to ten different parallel sessions, the annual conference brings together hundreds of researchers in the field of French studies. This is a great opportunity to share your research not only with fellow students but also with more advanced scholars.

Travel grants are available for all postgraduate students presenting at the conference: please follow the instructions below to apply. Postgraduate members also enjoy significantly reduced rates for the conference.

Further information on all of these opportunities is below:

Display a poster or give a flash presentation

Several slots in the conference programme are dedicated to PG poster sessions, but posters will be displayed from Monday morning onwards to allow other conference participants to fully take in your work and have the chance to discuss it with you. This is the ideal opportunity to get feedback: it is more informal than most academic events and allows for constructive, friendly conversations about your present work and your future research.

A jury of three researchers will award a prize of £100 for the best poster on display.

As of every year, students presenting a poster will be offered the opportunity to reflect on their experience at the Conference in a report published in the French Studies Bulletin.

Flash presentations

Present your research in less than 5 minutes and get feedback from scholars from your field of study! You can give a general overview of your research, or you could talk around an academic poster or a PowerPoint presentation: it is entirely up to you! This is a great opportunity to practice pitching a new project (PhD, postdoc…), or to test a specific argument of your research.

To take part, please fill in the form below and send it to; submissions are now open until 15 June 2019. Informal enquiries are also very welcome.
