The Society for French Studies is delighted to announce the winners of the inaugural round
of R. H. Gapper Essay Prizes.
Kiera Vaclavik (Sheffield) wins
the Undergraduate Essay Prize for ‘Brief and Discontinuous Forms
of Prose as a Means of Empowerment in Stendhal’s La Duchesse de Palliano’.
The Graduate Prize goes to Katherine Lunn-Rockliffe (Oxford) for
‘Voice-Defying Lyricism: Tristan Corbière’s Les Amours jaunes’.
Our congratulations to the winners and our thanks to all who
took part in the competition: the high standard and rich variety
of essays submitted and the large number of institutions represented
all suggest a very promising future for French studies in the UK and Ireland.
